Why should I do a Vocational Higher Education Course?

1. Do a job you love!

Having a vocational higher education qualification means that you have more chance of finding yourself a job you really love.

Employers like recruiting graduates because they know that skills like team working, communication, leadership, problem solving and computer literacy are all gained when doing a higher education qualification.

Did you know that half of the jobs expected to become vacant by 2020 will be ones that demand higher education qualifications?

2. It’s all about the money, honey!

There are lots of different statistics on how much extra money you will earn with higher education qualifications but not everyone agrees on the exact figure.

Different jobs have different earning potential and different parts of the country have higher or lower average salaries. Plus, thankfully, money isn’t always everyone’s main reason for choosing a career!

However, one thing that everyone agrees on is that being a graduate means you will earn significantly more over your lifetime than if you didn’t have the qualification, and remember you are much less likely to be unemployed.

3. Suits you sir!

Don’t be fooled into thinking higher education is all book-based learning and dull subjects. Lots of higher education courses are vocational and have hands-on, practical training and you can even train while you work. You are not forced to learn about subjects you’re not interested in because you choose the course that you take.

With over 50,000 different courses from Organic Farming to Computer Games Technology, you are bound to find a course that is right for you. Best of all, you study the way you want to – there are a range of options available including part-time, flexible and distance learning which means that it is often possible to continue working alongside studying for a higher education qualification.

4. Become a HOT commodity!

One of the great things about vocational qualifications is that the skills you gain are wanted by employers.  Lots of vocational qualifications, like Foundation degrees for example, are developed in partnership with employers and that means you end up with the skills and abilities that employers in your industry are looking for. Having a vocational qualification shows that you can actually do the job in practice, not just in theory, and that is an essential quality for lots of employers.

5. Learn AND Earn!

Work-based learning is a great way into and through higher education. You work towards a nationally recognised qualification while at the same time improving your skills, getting on-the-job training and earning money. The most common work-based learning routes include NVQs and Apprenticeships.
